Psalm 115
God is alive, idols aren’t
Idols can’t talk
1We don’t want the honor, LORD.Not us.
You deserve the honor for who you are,
For showing love and devotion to your people.
2Why do some ask us,
“Where on earth is your God?”
3Our God is in the heavens above us.
He can do whatever he wants.
4Their gods are idols of silver and gold,
Made by human hands.
5Their gods have mouths,
That can’t make a peep.
They have eyes, too,
But can’t see a thing.
6They have ears.
Can’t hear.
Noses.
Can’t smell.
7They have hands.
Can’t feel a thing.
Feet.
Can’t walk.
These idols can’t make a sound.
8Artisans who make lifeless idols
And the people who worship them
Will become as dead as the idols are.
9People of Israel,
Trust the LORD.
He’ll help you and protect you.
10Priests descended from Aaron,
Trust the LORD.
He’ll help you and protect you.
11Those of you who respect the LORD,
Trust him, too.
He’ll help you and protect you.
God’s hasn’t forgotten us
12The LORD remembers us.He’ll take good care of us all:
All the people of Israel,
All the priests of Aaron,
13Everyone who respects him,
And people famous or not.
14May the LORD make you successful,
You as well as your family.
15May the LORD,
Creator of heaven and earth,
Bless you with his continuing care.
16The heavens belong to the LORD.
But he gave the earth to us.
17Dead people can’t praise the LORD.
They can’t sing his praises in a grave.
18But we can praise the LORD
Now and from now on.
Thank you, LORD.
