Psalm 1
Book 1, Psalms 1-41
Psalm 1
Happy people follow the Lord
There’s happy and there’s sad
1Good people are happy and blessedBecause they ignore advice of bad people,
They don’t hang out with sinners,
And they don’t insult others.
2Instead, they love the LORD’s teachings.
They think of his teachings all the time.
3They are like trees planted beside streams—
Trees that produce lots of fruit,
Trees whose leaves never wither.
These people always succeed.
4Bad folks aren’t so lucky.
They blow away in the wind,
Like chaff that once held grain.
5Bad people won’t survive judgment.
When good and godly folks get together,
Bad people won’t get to join them.
6The LORD lets good people live.
But bad people are doomed to die. [1]
Footnotes
11:
This is the first in a collection of 150 songs written as poetic lyrics. When Jews wanted a worship song to sing at the Jerusalem Temple, or alone at home, or on the road to Jerusalem, or at a celebration honoring the king, they could find one in this collection of 150 Hebrew poems.
