Frequently Asked Questions
Some maps are free to use
Bible study groups of 20 or fewer along with ministers preaching sermons that are not streamed or broadcast may, at no cost, use the Casual English Bible® maps copied from our website or from atlas PDFs and eBooks they purchased.
But if you want to publish the maps online in digital products, social media, and elsewhere, you’ll need permission and licensing.
How do I get the licensed maps?
Use the form to send your request. And make sure to send the name of the map you would like to use. If you click the link, on the map’s page, the map name will pre-fill in the form. You can have the map with or without the text. Your choice, unless you’re pulling the image from the website.
What rights am I purchasing?
We will grant a license for one-time use, single edition/release/or post, for worldwide distribution for publication. Licensing fees vary according to usage.
How may I use the licensed maps?
You may use Casual English Bible® maps one time only to display on websites, social media videos, PowerPoint presentations, brochures and handouts. Reuse requires relicensing.
Personal use
License is granted for one-time use in a single edition, broadcast, or as an otherwise one-time publishing event. This covers world-wide distribution for publication in print and digital media.
Our maps, charts, and other visual resources are copyrighted and licensed for your use. Please don’t give these digital resources to others. You can use the licensed images in your own PowerPoint or similar presentations, but do not give the files or presentations you create to others if our maps are included. You can make paper copies of the licensed maps for instructional use for classes or groups you personally teach/instruct.
We have kept the cost of our maps low. So, if others want them, please direct them to the CasualEnglishBible.com where they can download files for their own personal use and license them for publication.
Church use
We sell our copyrighted maps for individual use. In other words, if you buy maps one at a time online or you buy the Bible book atlases, you may freely use the maps in classes and studies you personally teach – including using the maps in PowerPoint, making posters for your classes, making paper copies of the maps for your group members. For limits on class size and sermons streamed beyond the local church, see the tab “Some maps are free to use.”
You may not give electronic copies of the maps to others. So, for example, you should not give another teacher a PowerPoint presentation you developed (with our maps) unless they had also purchased the maps.
It’s very easy to create pirated copies of these resources. We realize that. So we ask for your compliance with copyright law. Licensing and sale of these maps help keep the Casual English Bible online and making new Bible maps.
Why can't I share the maps?
These are licensed for one-time use. Licensing fees and donor contributions help keep the Casual English Bible website freely available to Bible newcomers and people curious about Christianity.
Maps for book publishing and media outlets
If you would like to use any of these maps in books, magazines, television, and films, please contact [email protected] for licensing details.
Watermarks
We will blend barely noticeable, tiny watermarks into the maps. We will strip out all the large watermarks, like those you see in maps on this Casual English Bible website. Watermarks help protect the copyright. Pirates can and do steal the maps and publish them, sell them, and give them away as trojan horses gut-loaded with malware.
Social media usage
Publishing copyrighted material on Pinterest, Facebook, and similar social media sites without permission is illegal, and is not within the realm of “fair use.” Most people don’t seem to know that, and they honestly think that sharing helps get the word out about the maps. We can debate the marketing aspect, but the law is clear. And the licensing helps us cover our costs.
